Flexible palm rib surface from the Eindhoven material study

RESEARCH & COLLABORATIONS

Exploring material, process and possibility.

Through collaboration and experimentation, we explore new ways of working with palm rib across furniture, objects, surfaces and space.

DESIGN ACADEMY EINDHOVEN × PEACOCK

What else can this material become?

For one semester, Peacock opened palm rib to students from the Do/Make Department at Design Academy Eindhoven. Guided by designer and jewellery artist Estela Saez-Vilanova, the students explored the material through a series of studies, each proposing another possibility for its use.

The collaboration continues the studio's approach to gereed: preserving a craft by expanding what it can become.

PEACOCK MATERIAL LAB / EINDHOVEN

From experiment to possibility.

Twenty-three students explored palm rib through prototypes, surfaces, structures and objects. These pages from Catalogue ’26 document the studies and their different approaches to the same material.

Palm rib studies: Floor Lamp and Flexible Surface
01–02 / Texture, repetition and flexible structure
Palm rib studies: Living Fiber and Light by Subtraction
03–04 / Fibre, composite material and light

Experiments move from repeated structures to new surfaces and ways of working with light. The full catalogue follows these studies into further material directions.
